Stop suffocating the earth with plastic

Stop suffocating the earth with plastic, start sustaining it with recycling

It's 2020 and if you are still using plastics without any thought towards the environment, then it's high time you take a moment and look around our world, our planet- it is suffocating.

In light of excessive plastic usage, this blog attempts to highlight how plastic usage is violating the rules of law and the rules of nature. This is an attempt to encourage everyone to strictly give up on using synthetic plastic packaging and shift towards alternative solutions like recycled honeycomb paper packaging or to biodegradable plastics.

Amidst the grim situation of degradation of the earth because of excessive plastic usage, the silver lining is that young people have become active and vocal about environmental problems. They are taking down big brands and companies who are found as environmental violators. Greta Thunberg, a 17-year-old Swedish Activist is asking serious and loud questions from big companies and politicians on what is being done to stop climate change. Similarly, a 16-year-old Indian boy has taken two big e-commerce giants to the court for using excessive plastic or bubble wrap for packaging of the products which is causing serious damage to the environment as it gets thrown into the garbage at landfill sites.

The usage of plastic is not new but its increased usage is an alarming issue; companies are blindly practising single-use plastic because it is a cheaper way to pack without considering that plastics are non-biodegradable that break down into smaller fragments known as microplastics which then contaminate soil and water.

According to a report published by the World Economic Forum in 2016, the worldwide plastic has raised more than 20 folds over the past 50 years and it is being predicted that by 2050 we shall be using plastic 4 times more than what we are doing today making the Global Plastic Packaging Market a $269.6 billion industry by 2025.

If these numbers are still not alarming you then you should also know that synthetic plastic decomposition can take up to 10 years to 1,000 years. By this calculation, one should be able to decipher that the earth we shall leave behind for our future generations wouldn't be something they would be happy about.

Thus, it becomes important that each one of us takes steps on our part that shall contribute for saving the environment and in this light, the beauty industry must also make significant changes in their business structures to contribute and protect the environment. Many big beauty brands have already started using only recycled plastic for their shampoo and conditioner bottles while some have cut down on using excessive packaging by dropping leaflets, corrugated cards and usage of cellophane paper.

Experts have suggested that alternatives like biodegradable plastic should be the only choice if at all plastics have to be used. Biodegradable plastics are made from plants which then can be recycled again. Unlike the traditional plastics, biodegradable plastic breaks like wood which then gets decomposed in a molecular form that can safely reintegrate into the environment.

Therefore, as responsible citizens of our earth, we need to collectively understand and adopt a life that doesn’t have space for synthetic plastic usage. We need to discipline ourselves and our future generations to learn the concept of recycling and using products that promote the sustainability of the earth.

Thus, taking inspiration from these young icons, Aaryanveda too has become more determined to join hands in the movement of sustainability of the earth for the sake of our future generation. Therefore, we have pledged to only use biodegradable and recycled plastic bottles and recycled honeycomb paper for the packaging of our products. In fact, since the advent of Coronavirus, we have been using only recycled honeycomb paper for packing our products as it is cost-saving, keeps the products safe but most importantly it conserves natural resources and is environmentally friendly.

Aaryanveda has joined its hands to make this world plastic-free and save the environment but the real question is when will you join the wagon of saving the environment and making this world plastic-free?
